A Bit of Seoul

Fridge

Well folks my fridge has a kosher setting, apparently it does not work on Saturdays. I've decided to call it Ira. I think the stove is probably Catholic and doesn't  work on Fridays.  That leaves the dishwasher which I'm sure is Muslim and only runs at night ( Ramadan you know)

The appliances are so complicated...we have watched DVD's on how to run them...We've not really figured it out. So using the kitchen may not really be a option. There is more tech in my appliances than in the space shuttle. I'm not kidding.

We decided that the stove is named Joan ( of arc..fire you know)

I guess we will call the dishwasher Abdul..which is the name of Gods servant. Since the dishwasher washes dishes it's a good name for him.

Anyway our Contractor is not predicting that we will be able to operate anything in the kitchen for 6 months. We'll see...so far I'm not confident that we even managed to get the fridge turned on. Since we are not really food oriented we do not have a overwhelming motivation to figure it all out. Now if it was the TV we would be all over it.

Appliance

Well the appliances arrive today, they are not being installed but they will be in the house. The kitchen is a thing of beauty now. We just stop and admire it all the time. I'm currently doubting any cooking will occur in it, because it might get dirty. But it's amazing to have something so nice.

the day of the contractor

Well today was full of contractors. It started out with 2 contractors fighting over a mistake that was made in my kitchen. One of them all most cried. The next set tried to cheat us....over granite  counter tops, next I had to meet some contractors at work over a pending project.
In the end part of  my cabinets are being remade...my counters are in...and the air conditioning will be replaced in my server room soon.
Sigh..just another day...I'm still tired from my Vacation. My Uncle thinks it's cool I worked the entire time I was gone..I don't. Essentially I worked every day I was just in another state when I did it.

The kitchen is getting closer to being done...
On the down side the bathrooms still need to be done...sigh...

 

Obama Giveth

and Arny taketh away. I just got my paycheck and the extra money I got from the tax cuts are now gone. I knew it was coming cause I had to load the new tax rates into our accounting software. In fact the software vendor warned me that the new state increases would strangely mirror  what the  feds had given.

And here is  just a thought  for you on Prop 8...if your response  to  a law is " I believe, I want, or me" then you need to step back. Government is not for promoting your personal beliefs. You do not use the law to socially regulate or restrict people. This country was founded on the principle that all people are equal and entitled to the same civil rights. Those of you who feel the need to remove civil liberty from others in order to promote a personal agenda...well you should consider the fact that some day the same thing could be done to you. No matter how main stream and entitled you happen to think you are..some day something about you might inspire people to legislate against you. You think it can't happen? Take a look at history...it's FULL of people who thought it couldn't happen.

back

Well I'm back from the East Coast, the last thing we did was go to Colonial Williamsburg. ( It's a LONG drive so don't think it's close)
Though it was pretty and great to see the country side I was disappointed to find out none of the buildings was original at all. Neither was the landscaping. So it was like Disneyland...nothing was actually old.
Anyway..I also didn't know all the Civil War sights where so close. The entire war was fought on DC's doorstep.
The entire area looked park like to me...endless grass and tree's. Not my idea of wilderness at all.
Anyway, I'm tired and looking forward to work and seeing my horse...

Mt Vernon

Well today is my last day in DC. I have to say not only is the central area quite swanky but the proliferation of parks and public spaces make it a beautiful place. It is a memorable capitol city that can hold it's own against any other. It's intresting to consider the feel of the city compaired to other cities. This city is all about government.

You may think it should be like that, but I would like to point out that neither Paris or London are all about government. It's also intresting to think about how diffrent the people are in diffrent cities LA is very movie orientated...San Jose very engineer orientated....DC...governement. Everywhere you look people are clutching stacks of photo copies and discussing stuff you and I really don't care to much about. Legislation...ugh.

I went to Mt Vernon yesterday, it's a nice enough house for the time period. Especially since george was really just a farmer. It has a fantastic view of the river. 

It's funny the forrest here doesn't look like a forrest to me at all. It looks like park and scrub growth.

There have been the occasional minor disputes with my mom of course..she wants me to get a high paying job for the government and move here.... I most certainly do not want to work for the pentagon. It's a office building with 28,000 people in it. I'm someone who has chosen to be part of a purposeful community and who likes to visit monestaries....she doesn't get the diffrence.

The Pentagon

Well I went to the Pentagon today. It was just the way I figured it would be...long white corridors.

Honestly, the best fun so far has been the Natural History Museum, in fact we are going back tonight to go see a special showing of Night at the Museum 2 at the Imax theater.

DC

Well folks I've been on vacation in Washington DC now since Saturday. I was able to upgrade our tickets to buisness class, so we had a comfy flight.

Our flight was delayed by a hour so we where late but other than that we have been having a good time. We've visited with friends and have been sight seeing every minuet. Tommorrow we are off to the pentagon.

DC is quite lovely, but my curly hair and my sinuses do not like it. So I'm wandering around looking wild....

3 mile

Now I wonder why the third mile of walk/running is such a struggle for me. I walk at least three but have a hard time doing much more than walking somewhere into the third mile. I only manage to shoot way past the third mile once a week. On that one special day I walk five or so with no problem. I always try to make myself walk into the mile rather than just stop at three, but it's a struggle....

On the upside though I've not done much running..I can now run further than I could a few weeks ago.

Rain

Well spring has chosen to rescind our fine weather and replace it. Now on a intellectual level I KNOW more water is good. That the flowers will bloom longer, but on a emotional level I want to cry...I want the sun.
Anyway I've been walking on the treadmill thinking deep thoughts like...do you count your warm up time as part of the excersize total? And wondering what the horse was doing..okay wondering about the horse is limited..he's standing under his tree cursing the rain.

I'm proud of my helpdesk guy. He got the new Cisco access points configured and done. When I told him he had done a good job he pointed out that I and Jamal had both had helped him. I told him there was noting wrong with getting help. The point was he had gotten the the project done. I know it was discouraging for him when I was forced to completely reset the equipment just to get him back in ( he had messed up the config badly enough to be locked out) but after I got him back into the equipment he started over. The thing to remeber is that everything is difficult when it's new...but dedication is the key.
